KPBOS – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bureau of statistics. Bureau of Statistics is a provincial statistical organization and an attached wing of Planning & Development Department mandated to collect, compile, analyze and disseminate official statistics relating to economic, social, demographic and other important dimensions. Its aim is to provide timely and good quality data to facilitate data users especially in the context of quantitative analysis, informed decision-making, evidence-based planning, monitoring & evaluation, and research.
The recent website of KPBOS was not providing data according to the user’s demand. The website was outdated and not been improved since 2014. Also, the user interface was not friendly enough to cater the needs of the visitors. We worked on the website to develop its background so that the data can be easily searched and accessed. This is going to be KP’s first open data portal which involves CKAN tool, used for the very first time in Pakistan.
The main aim of the project is to create a safe open data source in an accessible manner for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The data provided is currently available in the PDF format, which makes it very difficult for users to find their required item. We have made efforts to make the data get converted in the best usable formats like Excel sheets.
The website of KPBOS often gets hacked which was a great threat itself to the data bank. So prior arrangements were made by the Fellows to have a safe open data portal. Also, we want the public and the users to have a good data handling service about their region where they live.
Naveed, Bilawal, Marina, and Sabih are working together on the data scrutinization at the website of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bureau of Statistics (KPBOS). Naveed Ali and Bilawal Khalid are full-stack web developers serving in this project on the development side. Marina Khan is serving as the content writer and Sabih Hassan is accompanying the team as a graphic designer.
The greatest impact of this project would be to have a meaningful form of data bank through the major governmental data handling site. Also, this would be an excellent iteration of experimenting an efficient user experience.
